Moving to a separate pre-amplifier and power amplifier offers another level of refinement to enthusiasts looking to upgrade from an integrated amplifier, or those looking to build a reference-grade system. A two-box set up enables the pre and power amplifiers to be run by separate power supplies resulting in a cleaner signal as the inductive effects of the large currents in the power amplifier are isolated from the sensitive components of the pre-amplifier. The Pre2 DAC - Philosophy  The Pre2 DAC separates the pre amp into its own chassis and provides a dedicated power supply which means the pre amp can resolve more detail. Complete with a built-in DAC, the pre amp is compatible with a very wide range of sources such as CD players, streamers or your TV digital audio out. The Pre2 DAC offers a sonic step up in performance from our integrated amplifiers. This is achieved because the pre amplifier circuitry has its own power supply. The internal power supply provides isolation from the demands of other system elements, making available an additional level of dynamics and resolution. The digital section also sounds better for the same reasons, especially when used with the optional Qx card, the audio quality rises further still. If a PSX R2 is connected, owners will hear a large jump in performance as the PSX R2 feeds the pre amp with a highly regulated and super smooth DC feed. The sonic uplift from the PSX R2 means the close tolerance components in the pre amp can be fully appreciated as they now benefit from the smoother supply. The Pre2 DAC includes a carefully designed top quality digital section built into the pre amplifier with a Burr Brown 24-bit/192k DAC and a carefully designed power supply. With 5 digital inputs that enable the amplifier to connect and clearly improve the sound of connected digital sources including; your computer, DVD player, TV and many other digital sources. In the QXR version, in which we use a new ESS-based DAC, as well as allowing input resolutions up to 32bit/ 768k, we have also introduced a new ‘reclocking’ process across all the digital inputs. This substantially reduces jitter and lowers the noise floor, as well as allowing a much shallower filter slope than ever before. This process virtually eliminates phase interference in the audible band (an approach only previously possible with noisy FPGA DAC solutions). The Pre2 DAC is designed to be partnered with one of our matching power amplifiers such as the X Power, Stereo 200 or Mono X 300 Signature. Build your system with a CD i or CD t and a Stream X Signature or Stream Xa for an exceptional music experience. Add a dedicated power supply such as the PSX R2 to further enhance the pre amp’s resolution. The Pre2 DAC QXR is a standard Pre2DAC with the new QXR digital card pre-installed. This new card improves the sound quality across all the digital inputs, increasing the possible input resolution to 32bit/ 768k (DSD 512) through the USB connection. Using a new ESS-based DAC, we have also introduced a new ‘reclocking’ process across all the digital inputs, to reduce jitter and lower the noise floor, as well as allowing a much shallower filter slope than ever before, virtually eliminating phase interference in the audible band (an approach only previously possible with noisy FPGA DAC solutions).

The CDt-XR is designed as a reference CD transport, building on the legacy of the CDt and the CD XT Signature models, but incorporating many novel technologies developed in-house at Cyrus over recent years. Housed within our iconic half-width chassis. The CDt-XR sits above the existing CDi and CDt models, offering a substantive performance upgrade. Listeners will notice a dramatic lowering of the noise floor, bringing enhanced clarity and nuanced detail, brought about through significant design improvements in many areas, yet the characteristic ‘Cyrus-sound’ has been retained. Transport / Servo Several years ago, Cyrus invested heavily in developing our own in-house CD ‘Servo’ mechanism, our ‘Servo Evolution’. The design principle is to read as much information as possible from the disc itself first time, rather than having to rely on ‘re-reads’ or ‘error-correction’. Whilst it is true that the data on a CDs is stored in ‘1s and 0s’, the way it is read, using picking up different frequencies of reflected light, has analogue elements to it.  Therefore, precision engineering can improve the performance.  Off-the-shelf mechanisms produce significant ‘system noise’ when the stepper motors of the mechanism are required to be used during the error correction processes when the data was not picked up on the first pass.  Our ‘Servo-Evolution’ system reduces these re-reads and corrections by around 20%, producing not only a cleaner data stream, but significantly less noise. Internal Power Supply The CDt-XR, like all products in the XR series, has had a complete overhaul of the power supplies to each circuit section. The power supplies are much stiffer and have enabled the Cyrus engineers to the get the remarkable SE engine to run even more quietly. Containing Noise Upgraded components along with intelligently designed circuits using ‘counter-current’ methodologies to reduce noise pickup are in evidence throughout the design. The fundamental principle is that power starts at the ‘quietest’ part of the circuit, before flowing towards the ‘noiser’ sections. Less noise is therefore ‘carried’ or induced into the power paths, limiting the transmission of noise inside the product. Whilst this sounds logical, the application in practice is incredibly complex, and needs to be considered at a system-wide level. Even the geometric alignment of individual components has been optimized to facilitate the cleanest possible flow of power and musical signal. Special Considerations  A key improvement in the CDt-XR is the re-clocking of the digital signal just before it exits the case. Although noise and timing accuracy are both carefully managed throughout the circuit, this final re-clocking ensures the absolute purity of the outbound digital signal through both the optical and coaxial connections. It’s worth noting that whilst an integrated CD player offers exceptional value and, although the CDi-XR is as close to ideal as technology reasonably allows, the presence of a DAC circuit in the same case, means the sound can never be as ‘absolutely’ clean as that from a dedicated transport. That, coupled with the fact that the integrated and pre-amplifiers in the XR series, all have pristine on-board Gen 2 QXR DACs, means the CDt-XR is, when used with a complete Cyrus system, the connoisseur’s choice

The CDi XR is designed as a reference integrated CD player, building on the legacy of the CDi and incorporating many novel technologies developed in-house at Cyrus over recent years. Housed within our iconic half-width chassis, The CDi-XR sits alongside above the existing CDi and CDt models, offering a substantive performance upgrade. Our ‘Servo-Evolution’ system reduces these re-reads and corrections by around 20%, producing not only a cleaner data stream for the DAC, but significantly less noise induced in the analogue output stages. Containing Noise Upgraded components along with intelligently designed circuits using ‘counter-current’ methodologies to reduce noise pickup are in evidence throughout the design. The DAC has been housed on its own shielded section of the PCB, again to help contain noise transfer Second Gen QXR DAC The DAC in the CDi-XR is our own second-generation QXR DAC platform with a key notable difference in its implementation.  As a DAC usually has to handle a multitude of possible resolutions and input paths, their design is always a slight compromise on the best possible configuration for any particular source. In the CDi-XR, however, we know exactly which resolution is going to be received (44.1kHz, 16bit) and the incoming signal path that data is going to travel.  As a consequence, we are able to calibrate our QXR DAC with incredible precision. We are able to optimize, not just the inbound data path and the data conversion itself, but also the filtering stages of the DAC to render the finest analogue output possible. Internal Power Supply  The CDi-XR, like all products in the XR series, has had a complete overhaul of the power supplies to each circuit section. The power supplies are much stiffer and have enabled Cyrus engineers to get the remarkable SE engine to run even more quietly.

Cyrus CD players have a history of class-leading performance, but none have so consistently wowed critics as the remarkable CD i. Judged the best CD player for four consecutive years by What Hi-Fi? Magazine. The CD i is without doubt one of the most influential integrated CD players ever designed. You’ve never really heard your CDs until you’ve listened to them on a CD i. Our CD players are better because they generate far less background noise than most. We call this our SE or Servo-Evolution technology. The principle itself is quite simple. Usually the laser mechanism (servo) which reads the data from a disc makes tiny movements side to side quite quickly to re-read miss-read data – this create ‘servo noise’ and that impacts the ‘noise-floor’ limiting the quality of the sound output. The principle objective with our CD players is to extract the data on the disc as accurately as possible the first time – and that is only possible through some very careful design and calibration in both the hardware and software elements of the player. The CD i is our ‘integrated’ model in the range, including a built in ‘Digital to Analogue’ converter, converting that digital data into a beautiful analogue signal, using an extremely refined 32bit DAC.The circuit of the CD i has been designed in 2 discrete sections, allowing the product to be upgradeable through the addition of our separate power supply (the PSX R2). This addition completely isolates the DAC section of the product, improving timing and eliminating any intermodulation which can impact the delicate analogue signals output. Whilst not necessary for outstanding performance, this addition is a valuable upgrade for the serious audiophile. State-of-the-art performance is served up through our unique understanding of converting data into sublime analogue signals – and how to handle each format for optimum results. You just sit back and control it all with our ‘Cadence’ app. Streaming services such as Tidal provide a convenient way of accessing vast catalogues of superb quality recordings. Far from being just for listening on the go through your mobile phone, these streaming services are more than good enough to be considered audiophile sources. They are now leading the way in delivering the next generation of audio experiences. The Stream Xa serves two functions, that of translating the multitude of file formats into the purest possible form of digital audio, Linear PCM. As part of this translation, it retimes that data to all but eliminate ‘jitter’ and temporal distortion. The second function is the conversion of that digital data into analogue form, so that it can be passed directly to a traditional amplifier system. With both digital and analogue output options as well as built in wi-fi and ethernet connectivity options, and asynchronous USB input, the Stream Xa is our most versatile streaming solution. The circuit of the Stream Xa has been designed in 2 discrete sections, allowing the product to be upgradeable through the addition of our separate power supply (the PSX R2). This addition completely isolates the DAC section of the product, improving timing and eliminating any intermodulation which can impact the delicate analogue signals output.
