Both the 3124V and the 3124MV are designed with the professional engineer in mind. Both units give four channels of the highest possible quality mic preamp. However, the 3124MV provides an additional audio mixer with a transformer balanced output, keeping the unit size and price reasonable. Both models are equally at home in the control room, studio, and recording truck or on stage. The 3124MV utilizes the same microphone preamp circuit that is used in all API consoles. It is equipped with the AP2516 input transformer and the proprietary output transformer found in all API mic pres and throughout the API product line. The unit offers Variable Output Level Control, switchable 3:1 output transformer selection, and an internal 48-volt phantom power supply, which is front panel switchable for each channel. Also provided is a front panel -20 dB pad switch that affects both the mic and line in. A 1/4" phone jack is available on the rear panel for each channel as an insert tip-send/ ring-return placed between the mic pre amp output and the mixer input. Like the 3124V, the 3124MV provides up to 65 dB of gain. The Hi-Z front panel input goes directly to the op-amp, allowing a low level input such as a guitar or bass to be amplified without a matching transformer or direct box. This Hi-Z input can accept input levels as high as +20 dBu, making it perfect for keyboards and other high level devices. The rear output is an XLR connector. Additionally, the 3124MV adds a stereo panner with a level control, and a post "fader" aux send. The stereo panners and the aux sends are bussed to master output controls and then to the rear panel jacks. A stereo AUX return is provided to return effects or cascade additional mixers for more inputs. The unique stereo aux return control acts to balance the left/right signal, yet staying stereo. It can also be used as a mono return.

The SR22 Dual Channel Compressor features two channels of API's patented award-winning compressor circuit in a rackmount unit with internal power supply. This same compressor circuit was originally designed into the legendary ATI Paragon analog live mixing console. Each channel includes the patented THRUST® circuit, which protects the sensitive high frequency content of the audio signal, even under the most vigorous of compression ratios. The perfect companion to the new SR24 Dual Channel EQ, the SR22 provides comprehensive, easy-to-use control along with classic analog VU meters for monitoring output and gain reduction. The two channels can also be linked for use as a stereo compressor with true RMS power summing of the left and right signals.
The SR24 is a two channel, four band equalizer in a two rack-space chassis. With a dedicated knob and/or switch for each control function, the SR24 is easy to use; by utilizing continuously-variable controls for both the frequency and boost/cut, the SR24 can be very precise in applying equalization to the selected audio material. The SR24 circuit design is deeply rooted in API's history. From the late 1970's to the early 1980's, an audio company called "APSI" manufactured consoles and equalizers. Their 562 module was a 4-band, fully parametric equalizer which was designed by APSI and sold through API. Over the last several decades, these EQ modules remained a favorite among many studio engineers, but have become increasingly difficult to find. The SR24 is a faithfully re-engineered version of the original 562, offering the user 2 channels of classic analog EQ in one rackmount unit.

Classic API Compression for the Modern Studio The API 2500+ Stereo Bus Compressor joins the company’s regular lineup, bringing all that formidable dynamics-shaping power to your rack in a sleek, space-saving 1U chassis. The API 2500+ model added a sophisticated Mix/Blend circuit to API’s venerable design coming form the anniversary edition. API’s flagship compressor delivers the inimitable sound of iconic API compression along with unparalleled parametric control. The result is an incredible-sounding, versatile, world-class stereo bus compressor capable of handling any audio production task. Meticulously designed to deliver a broad range of compression options and features not found on most compressors, the API 2500+ delivers warmth, clarity, and punch, whether used for nuanced dynamics control, brick-wall limiting, or anything in between. Parallel compression done right The Mix/Blend circuit found on the API 2500+ does a lot more than the simple wet/dry blend pot found on many modern compressors, giving you the option of either crossfading or parallel mixing of the compressed and uncompressed signals. First of all, the circuit can be hardwire relay bypassed entirely to deliver a purer signal than a standard blend pot simply maxed out to fully “wet” — a feature golden-eared engineers will appreciate. Next, when engaged and set to X (Cross), the Mix control lets you crossfade between fully uncompressed and fully compressed, literally increasing one while decreasing the other. In || (Parallel) mode, the MIX control effectively dials in your desired amount of compressed signal to blend in with the uncompressed signal, which remains constant. In case you’re wondering; trust us — these two active modes do sound and behave differently and you’ll quickly find uses for each. Equip Your Studio with Iconic API Compression If you’re after versatile compression, the API wrote the book. While the 2500+ is set up for stereo compression, you can also use it dual-mono. However you use it, though, you’ll have a range of compression styles to dial in — all highly musical, all incredibly usable. The 2500+ sports API’s patented Thrust circuit, a proprietary loudness contour that packs a powerful punch, imbuing each octave with the same energy (instead of half the energy as the next lowest one, as is the normal state of affairs). The Old/New Tone Type switch lets you choose between classic feedback and modern feed-forward compression styles. Whether you’re using it for drum stems, guitars, bass, vocals, or as a stereo bus compressor to pump up your mixes, the 2500+ delivers the iconic API analog sound and "slam factor" that has been relied on by recording engineers and heard on countless hits for a half century. Simply put: every serious studio needs the API 2500+. Incredibly versatile, highly musical When you choose API, you know you’re getting legendary sonic character. And with the API 2500+, you’ve got a range of character to choose from. To start, the 2500+ is equipped with API’s patented Thrust circuit before its RMS detector, which delivers punchy, old-school low end. There are also two types of compression onboard the API 2500+ — Old and New. The Old style uses the feedback type of compression in which the detector is placed after the VCA (as found on the classic API 525), while the New style uses a feed-forward type for a faster response typical of many popular modern compressors. The API 2500+ is stereo-ready, but sports a variable link between the left and right channels, so you can independently put the channels to work on your mono sources. Whatever way you use it, you’ll appreciate having API’s auto-makeup gain button on the output stage. It lets you vary the API 2500+’s threshold or ratio, while automatically maintaining a consistent output level. Sidechain input for creative ducking Every dynamics processor has a sidechain circuit that examines the signal and determines how much the VCA will reduce gain — but not every unit provides access to its sidechain. In compressors without a separate sidechain input, your main input signal is, essentially, compressing itself. With compressors that have a separate sidechain input — like the API 2500+ — you can introduce a different signal that determines the compression action on the main signal. An overt illustration of sidechaining is the “pumping” effect that’s popular in EDM production. A control signal — let’s say, a bass drum — is plugged into the sidechain input, triggering the detector and causing the main signal — a synth bass, in this example — to "duck," under each bass drum hit. This clears the way for maximum kick drum impact. Another classic use is for auto-ducking music under a voiceover, as in a radio commercial spot. Sidechaining can be used creatively in many ways, limited only by your imagination! API — the legendary American pro audio company No American pro audio company is more iconic than API. Launched in 1968 by Saul Walker, Automated Processes Inc. began building quality consoles for broadcast applications. Soon, the company’s products found favor with recording studios, and a string of industry-leading innovations (including the 500 Series module, the first VCA, computerized console automation, and more) followed. API produced the 2520 amplifier, one of the most famous op-amps in the recording industry, and their consoles and products found homes in such iconic studio facilities as the Hit Factory, Record Plant, Ocean Way, Sunset Sound, and many others. In fact, there are over 700 vintage API consoles around the globe — many of which are still in use. And the company certainly isn’t resting on its laurels; today’s API products give you the same unbeatable combination of utility, innovation, and great sound. That’s why, at Sweetwater, the name API commands reverence. Discrete Compressor, Re-Issue. Originally released in the 70's, the API 525 is a "feedback" type compressor, such as the 1176 and 660, etc. An input (threshold) control and output (make-up gain) control are provided. An additional "Ceiling" fine tune function modifies threshold and make-up gain for precise changes in compression without changes in output. A compression/limit switch sets ratio at either 2:1 or 20:1. Attack time is as fast as 15u/s. Four auto release modes are offered via two switches, 0.1s, 0.5s, 1.5s, & 2.0s. A De-Ess function inserts an inverse vocal energy curve filter in the detector for effective sibilance/p-pop reduction. The 525 is an identical re-issue of one of the most popular API products ever. The API 525 is perhaps the most successful solid state feedback compressor in history. It delivers dynamics control behavior unlike VCA "feed forward" compressors so common today. A remarkable multi-function "ceiling" control can increase gain reduction (lower threshold) while simultaneously raising output level to match, so the user can alter dynamics "on the fly" without level changes. This re-issue design has been taken from the original blue prints and spec control drawings from the API archives. 10 slot Rack with Power Supply. The API Model 500VPR is powered externally by a tri-polar power supply and is designed to accept API standard format 5.25" X 1.5" modules. The 500VPR is internally wired for PIN 2 hot, and comes with the API L200PS. The input/output jacks are both XLRs. The 500VPR can hold up to ten API modules. API makes several modules to fit this rack, including the 550A, 550B, 560, 525, and 512C. Like all API products, the 500VPR rack enjoys API's standard 5 year warranty.
The lineage of the 5500 circuit can be traced back to the original 550 equalizer designed by Saul Walker, the founder of Automated Processes Inc. The 550 was designed as a console equalizer which, due to the architecture of the recording console, uses an unbalanced input. Because the ergonomics of a console dictate that the controls take up little space, sometimes the number of included functions can be limited. The 5500 is specifically designed to address these limitations. It has a balanced input, a true straight-wire bypass, an integrated power supply with noiseless muting, and a range control that expands it versatility to mastering applications. Like all API products, the 5500 contains no integrated circuits in its signal path. The gain comes from two hand-built 2520 operational amplifiers in each channel. The balanced input is handled by a 2510 discrete operational amplifier, which is similar to the 2520, but without the high current output stage. Besides being a key component of the API sound, the 2520 coupled with the API 2503 output transformer is capable of delivering +30dBm before clipping. With this much headroom, it is unlikely that the 5500 can be driven to distortion unless perhaps another API unit is driving the input! The A2D represents a landmark achievement for API; it is the first product ever produced by the company with an integrated digital output. Recognizing the desire for a high quality solution to raise microphone signals to a workable line level, we engineered one of our most popular mic preamp designs into an enclosure with our new proprietary analog to digital conversion. The result is a complete package - a pair of superb mic preamps feeding an A/D section with a set of standard digital interface outputs, multiple sample-rate choices, and internal or external clock options. Precise control of both the analog gain as well as the level feeding the digital section means that the mic signal can be maintained super-clean if desired, or driven harder on the analog side for that whallop and impact that can only be achieved by driving the transformer into saturation for that historic API sound! The A2D analog section consists of the circuitry contained in two API 312 mic preamps, or one half of the popular 3124 quad mic preamp rack product. A level control pot with an expanded 20-segment metering system shows precise mic gain levels. Control switches include polarity, 48v phantom power, input pad, 2:1 transformer routing, and Mic/Line select. The API 550 EQ played a major part in the history of music recording in the USA during the 60's and 70's. Originally conceived for use in API's consoles, this latest 550 "B" version is a continuation of the original 1967 550 through the 550A with one additional filter band and several new frequencies. Incorporating API's exclusive circuitry and proprietary components (such as the legendary API 2520 op-amp), the 550B artfully blends the past with the present. So many hit records still depend on the unique 550 sound, that the 550B will be an invaluable tool you will turn to again and again. The API 550B—unlike any other you will ever use. Many EQ's today offer a huge assortment of complex features, but the API 550B provides exactly the right number of controls to the professional engineer. Deceptively simple at first glance, the 550B's four EQ bands are overlapped significantly to aid in dual roles as problem solver and sweetening device. Each band offers 7 switchable filter frequencies spanning 4 to 5 octaves, selected through experience by a "who's who" list of the industry's most proficient engineers. This re-issue design has been taken from the original blue prints and spec control drawings from the API archives.Features: 4 bands of our famous sounding equalizationEach band offers 7 API selected frequency centersReciprocal and repeatable filtering12 dB of boost/cut per bandEQ Band 1 and 4 offer shelf/peak switching"Proportional Q" narrows filter Q at extremesTraditional API fully discrete circuit designHigh headroom +30 dB clip levelRe-issue of 1967 API 550 EQ with an extra band
Few equalizers enjoy the respect and admiration of the coveted API 550A. Designed by the now legendary Saul Walker in the late 60's, the discrete 550A was first used as a modular OEM equalizer. As the industry rapidly embraced the sonic quality of the 550A, it quickly found it's way into many custom console designs by Frank DeMedio and other leading engineers. Many of these consoles are still in use today.Forty years later, the 550A remains the standard against which other EQ's are measured, and it has played a major role in the recording industry for decades. Still copied but never duplicated, the 550A became API's standard channel module EQ when the company began manufacturing consoles in 1971. With virtually all existing units spoken for, popular demand for this EQ resulted in API finally resuming production in 2004.With the long-awaited reissue of this unit, an EQ that has had such a part in the history of recording is continuing to make history in today's music. Like the API 3124+, the 3124V is a high quality, compact, 4-channel mic preamp. It is equipped with the RE-115 K mic input transformer and the proprietary output transformer found in all API mic pres and throughout the API product line. Additionally, the 3124V offers Variable Output Level Control and switchable 3:1 output transformer selection. The unit has an internal 48-volt phantom power supply, which is switchable for each channel, as well as -20dB pad switches that affect both the mic and Hi-Z instrument inputs, both located on the front panel. The 3124V also features up to 65dB of gain. Additionally, the Hi-Z front panel inputs feed directly to the op amps, which allow a low level input such as a guitar or bass to be amplified without a matching transformer or direct box. These Hi-Z inputs can take levels as high as +20dBu, making them perfect for keyboards and other high level devices. The mic preamp outputs are on rear panel male XLR connectors.Features:Classic API Circuit DesignUses API 2520 Op AmpsVariable Output Level Control3:1 Output Transformer Tap SelectionFour female XLR mic inputsFour front panel 1/4" Hi Z instrument inputsFront panel polarity switchesFront panel -20dB pad switchesFront panel mic/instrument switchesFront panel 48V power switches
