Equator 2.0 offers an essentially neutral performance with none of the exaggerated treble detail frequently found at this price point. Equator is well suited as an upgrade for mid-level or older audio systems in need of a little ‘TLC.’Atlas Equator 2.0 is a 2mm² cable using OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) conductors contained in a high-density PEF dielectric (insulation layer) that’s far more efficient than PVC or polyethylene. The superior dielectric offers both a better measured performance and an audible improvement in dynamics. The core assemblies are contained in a cotton yarn in order to reduce microphony and the outer sheath is in a pearl white finish. Termination is with Z-plugs or our cold-weld high quality OFC spades. All Atlas cables are designed to impose as little of any inherent character as possible, achieved through careful selection of materials and construction methods, but we feel this latest generation Hyper cable is exceptionally transparent, allowing the equipment characteristics to be conveyed intact.The cable employs conductors comprising 72 0.25mm² high-purity OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) strands encapsulated within a carefully selected high-efficiency PTFE (Teflon™) dielectric coating. The resultant conductor is embedded within an anti-vibration filler and finished in the Hyper gloss black sleeve.Hyper 3.5 is the first cable in the Atlas product hierarchy which uses our Transpose Modular Termination System. Default termination is with our precision fit solder-free Expanding Plugs, suitable for standard 4mm sockets. Ascent is the first speaker cable in our product hierarchy to use OCC (Ohno Continous Casting) copper connectors with a total 2.0mm² diameter. These ultra high purity ‘6N’ (99.99997% purity) conductors are extremely transparent to the signal being passed, their mono-crystal structure ensuring minimum signal loss. Mavros uses very high purity OCC (Ohno Continuous Casting) copper conductors. The OCC process is named after professor Atsumi Ohno, who in the late 1970s, discovered that by heating the drawing mould to a higher temperature than the molten copper you intend to cast, then cooling it soon after, the result is one long, high purity (99.9997%) metal crystal.These high-purity monocrystal conductors are used in a multi-stranded layout, wrapped in individual low-loss microporous PTFE (Teflon™) insulators, and twisted to help lower electromagnetic interference. The four separate conductors are then wrapped in cotton, an additional layer paper, then wraps the assembly in PVC and shrouds it in an outer black cotton sleeve.In the bi-wire 2–2 and 2–4 configurations, two additional solid conductors are dedicated to the mid/high frequencies, facilitating a more stable and open stereo image.This obsessive attention to detail – and the combination of materials & assembly methods which was only finalised after exhaustive testing – produces a cable which HiFi World’s reviewer described as‘ the best he’d ever heard’ and HiFi Plus summarised as ‘one of the very, very best. The goal to make cables which have no discernable character or sound of their own, which would in itself be a form of distortion – Mavros is engineered to ‘disappear’ in your system, leaving the performance of your equipment to speak for itself.
