Floorstandind Speakers
Classic quality 804 D4 is perhaps more conventional in appearance than other floorstanders in the 800 Series Diamond range, but it’s every bit as sophisticated. Its new Reverse-Wrap cabinet is both a mechanical and acoustic revolution in its class, and its new plinth ensures rock-solid, accurate bass response too. Aluminium top-plate Every stereo model in the new 800 Series Diamond range has a significantly upgraded cabinet with an all-new aluminium top-plate. This also provides a perfect mounting point for all-new Leather by Connolly trim, with luxurious black leather for dark cabinets and light grey for lighter finishes. Reverse Wrap cabinet Instead of a conventional loudspeaker box, the cabinet in 804 D4 is made from a continuous curved section of wood, with the drive units mounted at the heart of the curvature. This stiffer, more inert structure resists mechanical resonances far better and also ensures better dispersion of sound. Aluminium plinth A great speaker needs a rock-solid foundation. The new 804 D4 uses a downwards-firing Flowport exiting on to a solid aluminium plinth complete with a steel constrained layer damping sheet, which controls unwanted resonance. It also has greatly upgraded spikes for maximum stability and durability. The science of sound Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We question, we examine, we understand and then we evolve. We use computer modelling to explore and reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker design. Learn more about all the technologies that combine to make 800 Series Diamond so special here. Get a Head 804 D4 is the entry-level floorstanding model in the 800 Series Diamond range. Step up to 803 D4 and you’ll find larger bass drivers (180mm, 7in) plus, crucially, the addition of a Turbine™ Head enclosure for the 130mm (5in) midrange cone, which adds even more spaciousness to the sound.

The longest standing loudspeaker of the line, Sopra N°3 perfectly combines dynamics, space optimisation and harmonic richness. With its two 8¼" (21cm) woofers, this loudspeaker offers solid, rich and perfectly defined bass for music lovers looking for optimum performance. Despite its reasonable size, it will reveal its full potential in rooms measuring up to 860 ft2 (80 m2).Sopra clearly inaugurates a new era for the “Premium High End” by taking into account new performance criteria. Compact, modern, a pure design, character... all these are essential factors to ensure perfect integration into your interior. Equipped with best midrange drivers ever developed by Focal, with the NIC and TMD technologies, Sopra pushes back the limits of sound reproduction in terms of transparency in a very compact enclosure. Indeed, unlike Utopia, which is extravagant by essence and where size is by no means a constraint, Sopra aims for maximal compactness to ensure easy integration into reasonably sized rooms. Since the beginning, we have always had a great interest in the magnetic circuit, an essential aspect of a speaker drive unit. The precision and detail of audio reproduction depends on the stability of the magnetic field. NIC technology (Neutral Inductance Circuit) permits to control the magnetic field and finally enables to master it in order to limit distortion. It decreases the effects of distortion and give the sound a very high-definition and an unprecedented dynamic. The main theme of Sopra is deliberately uncluttered, though it still offers connoisseurs the opportunity to enjoy all the small details. The grille with an incremental meshing motif protects the Beryllium tweeter and gives it a strong identity. This motif is repeated for sealing the curved back panel of the middle section. The terminal board, the thumb nuts and the adjustable spikes have all been specially designed for Sopra, as have the few visible screws, all of which were manufactured by watchmaking experts. Made in France Sopra’s cabinet was designed in our cabinet-making facility in Bourbon-Lancy (Burgundy, France) using the same manufacturing process as for Utopia The 69mm sandwich-machined front panel uses the same principle as ‘Gamma Structure’ to provide inertia and damping. Its density gives it the inertia necessary to provide a stable mechanical reference for optimal definition. The inside of the cabinet has no parallel side panels, and small Helmholtz resonators have been added to the lower section to prevent vertical standing waves. We chose glass as th e material for the base of the loudspeaker to provide floor coupling, using spikes, which enabled the fastest propagation time possible, thus eliminating all halo effects in the bass.

The powerhouse model of the Wharfedale DIAMOND 12 series, the DIAMOND 12.4 is the room-filling, chest-pounding, largest model in the series. For larger, more powerful systems and cinema-style home theatre experiences, the DIAMOND 12.4 will fill your room with an impactful, immersive performance. Configured in a 2.5 way system with exception crossover technology, the DIAMOND 12.3 utilises dual 150mm (6.5”) KlarityTM drivers for impactful yet refined mid-range and bass frequencies, while the 25mm (1”) dome tweeter delivers open and smoothly extended high frequencies. A voice coil beyond this class The voice coil is wound on a high-power epoxy/glass fibre bobbin highly unusual in speakers at this price level. This has the advantage of not adding eddy currents and delivering greater power handling than an aluminium bobbin, whilst also being much stiffer than the Kapton type associated with this price-class. DIAMOND highs The 25mm dome is made from a woven polyester film with a high-loss coating to deliver open and smoothly extended high frequencies. The magnet system and the front plate have been optimised for wide dispersion and uncompressed behaviour. The front plate is flat and exposes the dome as much as possible; only a very short duct on the front plate balances the acoustic load and improves the SPL (sound pressure level) measurement. A crossover of style The crossover network uses an acoustic LKR 24dB topology. This includes air-core inductors of the type more commonly found in high-end speakers, selected because they produce the lowest distortion of all inductor types. As the resistance of the coil is higher than a standard laminated steel or ferrite core inductor, the magnetic structure of the mid/bass driver has been modified to compensate, resulting in fast, clean bass with no distortion from the inductor. Firm and fair The DIAMOND 12.1 ’s rear-ported enclosure is precisely sized so that the internal volume works in harmony with the drive unit system to deliver the desired sonic result. A multi-layered sandwich design subdues the identifiable characteristics of the cabinet’s ‘sound’. Even the resonant properties of the glue between the layers was measured to determine the optimum combination. Brace yourself Inside the cabinet, Intelligent Spot Bracing connects opposite walls with a specific form of the wood brace to achieve an optimal reduction of cabinet resonance. These braces are precisely modelled by computer simulation to improve upon the commonplace ‘figure of eight’ brace, which may simply transfer resonance from one wall to another.

The combination of high sensitivity for dynamics and increased bass extension for realism make the step up from bookshelf speakers, worthwhile. Ultra-Low Resonance Cabinet Design The Concept 40 uses GelcoreTM Cabinet Construction, where two layers of MDF, are separated by a bespoke, resonance absorbing, non-setting adhesive which converts the kinetic energy and disperses it as heat. This substantially reduces distortion and allows the individual drive units to deliver their optimal performance; a pure and uncoloured sound. Simple to Drive, Simple to Position With 90dB sensitivity and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, the Concept 40 is easily driven by any good quality amplifier, providing effortless peaks and crescendos in music and movie soundtracks. Various locations for positioning the speaker in the listening room are catered for by providing a foam bung which can be inserted in the rear-mounted reflex port modifying the bass response to suit positioning against a rear wall or close to a corner. Stunning to Hear, Stunning to See These striking floorstanding loudspeakers are available in multi-layered lacquered black or white finishes. The elegant tripod stand allows the Concept 40 to achieve perfect rigidity and floor contact, which further enhances its performance. Even the speaker's attractive brushed aluminium facia plate is not purely decorative. It's part of an assembly, which clamps a butyl rubber sheet to the front panel to reduce cabinet resonance still further in the panel facing the listener.

The ultimate loudspeaker Nothing looks, or sounds, quite like Nautilus™. A revolution when it launched and still an icon today. Its ethos informs everything we do. Nautilus comes in three standard colors: midnight blue, black, and silver. We also offer a special service that can match any color from a sample or color reference. Where form truly follows function Shaped by sound At a glance, you can see Nautilus is no ordinary speaker, and after almost a quarter of century it still defines high-end audio. Infinite colors Nautilus comes in three standard colors: silver, black and midnight blue. But, as befits such a unique speaker, we also offer a special service that can match any color you specify. Setting the standard for the future The striking spirals and tubes of Nautilus came from our research into making speaker drive units behave as we wanted: this Nautilus Tube™ technology, for which we won a Queen's Award for Innovation, is now found in almost every speaker we make. Thinking beyond the box Nautilus is quite unlike a conventional box speaker: to package our unique Nautilus tubes for use in the home, our designers developed the striking, and space-efficient, spiral form from which the speaker takes its name. But why the Nautilus tube? We want to hear a speaker driver, not its side-effects – conventional boxes contain sound from the rear of the driver, but bring their own problems. Nautilus tapering tubes soak up wayward energy and reduce resonances to the point of insignificance. Every set (except the LS1a) also comes with a USB interface that facilitate connection of a Windows or Mac PC. It can be used to play audio from the computer directly into the LS1. Mac’s have native support, PC’s require a special driver. Via the same USB connection, the LS1 remote software can be used to setup the system. An LS1i can also be used as generic USB audio interface by people that need a high performance two channel digital audio interface.
The SB1 with ‘DMF’ is a technological marvel. By applying ‘Digital Motional Feedback’, a control technology from the renowned Dutch high-tech industry, it became possible to achieve exceptionally low levels of distortion and full dynamic control. With an SB1 added for the bass frequencies, the LS1 system offers low distortion over the full audio band and redefines the term ‘transparency’. This is bass control like you’ve never experienced before.“Digital Motional Feedback offers bass control like you’ve never experienced before.”At frequencies below 100 Hz loudspeaker drivers need to move a vast amount of air and therefore have high excursion levels, while also the fundamental resonance – which is present in any loudspeaker – induces unwanted delayed effects. The result is that all conventional loudspeakers exhibit a rising distortion in the bass region with additional “thickening” of the bass by the resonance. In electronics, feedback is used to minimise distortion. To apply feedback in electro-mechanical systems like an active loudspeaker, an acceleration sensor needs to be mounted on the cone to monitor its motions. This so called “Motional Feedback” technology has been presented a few times before in history but the precision and control as found in the Grimm Audio SB1 is unique. By adding smart digital processing and current drive, the low distortion of the already high-performance aluminium woofer is further reduced by as much as 30 dB, solving all problems that are related to low frequency resonances and distortion. The SB1 sub is a perfect partner for the LS1v2 and an excellent match for the LS1be. It is even a smart extension for the LS1a. A switch facilitates use of the SB1 with third party systems, so the virtues of Digital Motional Feedback can be enjoyed by many.
The beautifully crafted LS1r remote control is part of the LS1 hifi system. It features volume control, source selection and mute, just with one large dial. Two extra digital audio sources can be connected directly to the remote. When placed at a distance, a regular IR remote may be used for wireless control.
