Mastering D/A Converter Mercury is the first mastering DA-converter in 120V technology. It offers seven digital stereo input sources, all of which can be synchronized with each other or with a word clock. The additional variable output qualifies Mercury as a monitor controller. Seven Digital Sources Mercury provides connections for a total of seven digital stereo input sources. For each digital source there is a dedicated and illuminated tactile switch for quick selection and quick comparison. The detected sample rate is shown in the display. One USB input and two coaxial, two optical and two AES/EBU inputs are available. AES input 2 also supports Dual-Wire (DW) mode. Sync The display shows the synchronization status and the detected sampling rate. Any source except USB can be synchronized to another source or to an external Word Clock. If the sync “Source” is selected in the display, each source uses its own sync code embedded in the signal. O dBfs Holding the Sync button for more than two seconds Mercury will change to the 0dBfs display. Mercury offers all reference levels in dBu corresponding to a 0 dBfs (full scale) digital signal: +14, +15, +16, +17, +18, +20, +22 and +24 dBu Fix & Var The FIX OUT is an analog balanced stereo output which can be calibrated to all common reference levels (see 0 dBfs). Mercury offers a variable analog balanced stereo output. This output provides the same signal as the FIX OUT, but the level is continuously adjustable. Thus Mercury can also be used as a state-of-the-art monitor controller. Variable Output This analog potentiometer is used to control the level of the VAR OUT output. We use the ALPS RK27 “Big Blue” potentiometer with a nice “spoon in honey” feel and excellent channel tracking. So not only the auditory but also the haptic experience of volume control is at the highest level. Lynx Studio Technology is proud to present the Hilo Reference A/D D/A Converter System. With the pristine, open, transparent audio quality for which Lynx is known, Hilo (pronounced HE-low) provides two channels of mastering quality analog to digital conversion, up to eight channels of digital to analog conversion, a secondary monitor output, and a world class independent headphone amplifier in a compact half-rack size. A first for the two-channel pro converter market, Hilo’s innovative 480 x 272 touchscreen provides a flexible and intuitive interface that can adapt to a particular application and be easily upgraded with enhancements and new features. Initial front panel controls support extensive signal routing and mixing, sample rate selection, clock source options, levels, metering and diagnostic features.Hilo completely redefines and evolves the category of the two channel converter. Of utmost importance is the audio signal quality. The completely new design of the analog stages and converter topology for Hilo break new ground in terms of lowering distortion and noise while maintaining transparency for A/D and D/A conversion. Beyond that, Hilo offers extensive I/O capabilities and utilizes the latest FPGA technology with vast resources for control, routing, and signal processing capabilities. Also in development are diagnostic and analysis tools for Hilo. The LCD screen is a natural interface for these functions. The digital or analog inputs can be routed to three separate outputs, Line Output (with 8 trim settings), Monitor Output, and Headphone Output. Each of these output pairs has its own dedicated DACs, allowing each to offer a unique mix. The Monitor and Headphone Outputs have volume controls, accessible via faders on the touchscreen or the single knob on the front (offering control in ½ dB increments). Another innovation, the Headphone section has its own dedicated D/A converter. This supports the creation of 32-channel headphone mixes independent of the main and monitor outputs, as well as providing specifications that rival those of dedicated headphone amps costing $1500 and more. The digital section offers a wide range of inputs. AES/EBU inputs and outputs have transformer isolated balanced XLR connectors. SPDIF input and output are available via transformer-coupled coax or optical (TOSLINK) connections. The Optical ports can also be used for up to eight ADAT channels. The ADAT input and output channels are completely independent from the AES/EBU or S/PDIF coax channels. The Lynx LT-USB LSlot accessory is also included, for computer connectivity. Lynx’s low jitter SynchroLock word clock is also included, with Word Clock in and out connections available. In total, Hilo has 12 total inputs, 16 total outputs plus 32 channels possible via its LSlot port. The unit’s FPGA powers its internal 32 channel mixer, which allows Hilo to offer the most versatile I/O and routing in the two channel converter genre. This is just the beginning of the innovation. In contrast to the concentrated and intricate back panel, Hilo’s front panel is elegant in its simplicity. It has a power switch, headphone jack, multipurpose control and a 480 x 272 pixel high resolution LCD touchscreen. This high-resolution screen does a lot more than simply replace the buttons on the front panel of most other converters. Of course it handles the basic settings and routing functions, clocking and level settings.A second meter screen shows just two larger bar-graph style stereo bar meters. Any input or output set can be assigned to each meter. In addition to bar-graph meters common on most converters, Hilo’s touchscreen is able to show more traditional metering types, such as old style VU meters. Also in development are diagnostic screens, such as real time analyzer, phase meter and loudness meter. As with all other Lynx products, Hilo is FPGA based, meaning new features, capabilities and graphics can be added at any time with a simple download.

AUDIO FORMATS CALLIA supports linear PCM in 2’s complement binary coding and, using the “DSD over PCM” (DOP) protocol, DSD at the original bit-rate (DSD64) and also at 2 x the original rate (DSD128). DSD Files encoded as “DOP” may be played with both ASIO and WDM drivers. Your computer, tablet or transport will commonly decode formats such as mp3 to PCM prior to transmission to the sound card, so these formats will typically be supported on your device in the same manner as they would be with another sound card. On the S/P-DIF inputs, DOP can also be used, but only at the original DSD bit rate (DSD64) as these connections do not have enough bandwidth for DSD128. The ASIO native DSD format is not currently supported. Dangerous has been building award-winning, standard-setting converters since 2002 when the Dangerous Monitor’s onboard digital-to-analog converter (DAC) swiftly became the industry reference. We’ve been asked over the years to build a stand alone DAC, and they’re finally here in the Convert series. Eager to embrace the opportunity to develop a new and better DAC, we designed the Convert series converters from the ground up, utilizing cutting-edge digital technology coupled to a Chris Muth designed analog circuit that delivers our signature sound: open, articulate and powerful from top to bottom. Loaded with innovative and useful features accessed from an intuitive front panel, the Convert-2 tops an elite class of dedicated stereo digital-to-analog converters in both sound and ease of use. The Convert-2 goes beyond transparency – you won't just hear everything, you’ll hear it beautifully.Specifications:Signal to Noise Ratio A-weighted, 20Hz to 20KHz: < 114dBSignal to Noise Ratio unweighted, 20Hz to 20KHz: < 113dBDynamic Range A-weighted, 20Hz to 20KHz: < 114dBDynamic Range unweighted, 20Hz to 20KHz: < 113dBJitter: 16ps (100Hz to 40KHz), 18ps (100Hz to 1MHz)Crosstalk rejection: > 114dBu 1kHzReplacement Fuses: USA 2 amp slo-blow for 120V Europe 1 amp slo-blow for 240VTHD+N:THD+N, 1kHz, unweighted, 20Hz to 20kHz, +4dBu out: < 94.5dB (0.00188%)THD+N, 1kHz, unweighted, 20Hz to 20kHz, +22dBu out: < 106.5dB (0.00048%)Frequency Response 96KHz sample rate:DC to 20KHz: +0, -0.25dBDC to 30KHz: +0, -0.5dBDC to 40KHz: +0, -1.0dB
If you thought analog-to-digital converter innovation had taken a snooze, Dangerous Music is about to wake you up with five game-changing innovations. Packed into a single rack space with our next-generation conversion for the ultimate in musicality and transparency, the CONVERT-AD+ is the most advanced stereo analog-to-digital converter on the market. The CONVERT-AD+ has no fewer than five—five!—features previously never seen on an analog-to-digital converter before. Smart, useful, well-executed innovations put Dangerous Music on the map, and we continue that tradition into the 21st century with the CONVERT-AD+.Simple, elegant, intelligent. With the push of a button, you can switch between any two balanced line input sources. With zero fuss, you can instantly compare different mastering chains, test your mix against a reference, or to switch between recording and mixing mode—or use the inputs in any configuration you dream up. From the largest mix rooms, to elite mastering suites, to your home studio, the switchable inputs on the CONVERT-AD+ is about to make everyone’s life a lot easier.Do you dig pushing the A/D beyond 0 dBFS, into clipping, for specific sonics? Clip Guard will turn off the red light LED at your destination (i.e. DAW). Red indicates clipping on most meters, in actuality, the over indicator in the AD+ turns from green to yellow. Now “Mastered for iTunes” or the CD pressing plant will not reject your opus, since these red light overs will not appear. This is not a limiter. If you can hear clipping and engage clip guard, it will sound identical. It simply disables the clip LED in your DAW or destination device, but you will still be audibly clipping.Previously an oxymoron, musical transparency makes perfect sense now that Dangerous Music has pushed its products to the bleeding edge of today’s technology. We deliver an open, full-bodied sound free of unwanted artifacts (transparency) with a bold and big three-dimensional sound (musicality). The result is sound that you can trust and love.Among those who truly understand this hotly debated area of audio technology, the mantra with digital is implementation, implementation, implementation. How components are selected, tweaked and assembled according to a specific design, and then tuned for superior performance within that plan, is what sets a converter apart – for better or worse. The Dangerous Music CONVERT-AD+ has been developed by a team of experts with deep, up-to-the-minute knowledge of the best digital and analog converter technology available today. Our implementation has even managed to get the clock working better than it’s stated specs.JET is a patented clocking technology that Dangerous Music employs in order to reduce jitter to the point where it simply isn’t a factor impacting the sound of our converters. Whenever zeros and ones are flying by at incredible speeds, a solid clock and balanced data stream management system is of the utmost importance to articulate, musical, 3D impact. Do not shy away from using the CONVERT-AD+ as your studio’s master clock, a choice more and more engineers are making since becoming “converts.”Features:Selectable Calibration Level cycles through three calibration levels for compatibility with other devicesToggle between two discrete, selectable stereo inputs with two switchable stereo input pathsClip Guard will turn off the red light LED at your destination (i.e. DAW)Premium custom crafted digital meter with Normal and Peak Hold modes provides precise visual feedbackZoom view lets you view only the top 10dB of your signal level, for a finer, magnified resolutionWord Clock with three Modes: Internal, External and MasterX-FORMER insert button engages some of Chris Muth’s sonic wizardry via a pair of customized HAMMOND™ transformersEMPHASIS shelving EQ/Compressor induces 2nd order harmonic distortion to blend in a bit of mid warmth and sparkleUSB connection for Mac/PC
The Bricasti Design M1 USB digital to analog converter is a dual mono design; there are 2 completely isolated channels, a left and right, each with its own dedicated linear power supply, D/A converter, DDS clocking, and analog circuitry. This design insures that analog cross talk is virtually non existent, that the necessary power requirements for each channel are well met and isolated from each other and the digital processing is isolated, having its own power supply. With our twin DAC design, the dynamic range for each channel is optimized by using the stereo ADI 1955 D/A converter in a mono configuration, plus clocking is for each channel done directly at each DAC with a technique called DDS (direct digital synthesis) which takes clock induced jitter to immeasurable levels.Build QualityThe M1 is robustly constructed of milled and CNC machined aluminum sections. There is no typical bent metal chassis and top cover found on most products. All sections of the construction, the front and rear panels, the sides and even the bottom and top plates start out as solid blocks of aluminum which are precision machined to shape, with exact tolerances for a perfect fit. These parts are then anodized and the text and markings and are laser etched for a clean and enduring look. The SoundThe intention if the M1 is to provide a state of the art, Digital to Analog converter, utilizing the best designs and materials that can be found today. The D/A converter is a very critical part of the digital audio chain, after all you have to convert it to analog to hear it, and we feel this should be a true as possible in its reconstruction of the original signal. The sound of the M1 is intended to be transparent and revealing, and fully dynamic. This in part is made possible by the lowering the jitter to extremely low levels, providing a pure digital signal chain with no SRCs ( sample rate converters) or digital volume controllers, superior digital filter design, coupled to a fast transparent analog signal path with a discreet analog output section and plenty of good clean linear power for optimum analog performance. Many hours of listening were done to tune the M1 to an exacting sound, with all types of music, and with extensive testing done in the studio and in the home. We hope you find the M1 to be pleasing and enjoyable to hear and use in the home, or as a precision tool for high level reference monitoring for the professional.

HEDD, short for harmonically enhanced digital device, is a technological breakthrough in signal processing. HEDD is engineered to be musically transparent while providing the capability of generating tube/analog sounds in the digital domain. HEDD gives any user who works with digital the ability to sound less digital and more analog. Applications include: CD preparation, work station input and output, DAT machine A/D and D/A convertor replacement and effects generation (warming or changing sounds in the digital domain). HEDD 192 can be used in tracking, mixing or mastering. The HEDD signal processor has the following features: High Quality 24 Bit A/D and D/A Convertors 24 Bit Processing Adjustable Triode, Pentode and Tape sounds Digital I/O, AES and S/PDIF External WC Sync Input and Output Will be Upgradable to 192K sample rates (once parts are available) The front panel controls allow the user to select input source, sample rate, and continuously variable triode and pentode sounds. The HEDD can operate as an effects device or as separate A/D and D/A convertor with the sound enhancement process applied to either the A/D or D/A convertor. HEDD has transformerless balanced analog inputs and outputs, transformer isolated digital inputs and outputs, and uses separate power transformers and supplies for the analog and digital sections. The unit is 1 rack space tall and operates from 115V or 230V mains.
The ADC2 is the successor of our renowned two channel ADC1-MK2 A/D Converter. NEW: FIREWIRE option now available! The firewire option is a PCB which plugs into the main board of the ADC2. It supports bidirectional transmission: - analog or digital in from the ADC2 to the computer - from the computer to the ADC2, out on the S/PDIF connector on the back. All sampling rates are supported. There are drivers for Windows and PowerPC based MACs available. The ADC2 uses state of the art A/D chips in our proven ?correlation technique? configuration, which lowers converter imperfections. The analog input stages are kept balanced from the input connectors throughout to the converter chips. A high quality microphone preamplifier is built in as a standard feature. Supported sampling frequencies are 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz. Output formats are AES/EBU in one or two wire technique, S/PDIF as well as Firewire for a direct connection to computers. Synchronization can be internal or external through AES/EBU or BNC (Wordclock). The built in digital peak limiter allows for setting a generous headroom on the analog inputs and still get a full scale signal at the converterΆs output. A large bar graph shows the level to the A/D input, the output level and the gain reduction in the aforementioned Limiter. The output wordlength can be reduced from 24 to 16 bits with the built in POW-R dithering. It is even possible to have one output running at 24 bits and another one at 16 bits. This feature comes handy when a safety copy to e.g. a DAT has to be made. The analog input sensitivity can be set in 1dB steps via a relais controlled attenuator. An additional gain control is implemented in the DSP chip in the digital domain. Both channel 1 and channel 2 are fully independent, except for the sampling rate and for the dither settings. The AES/EBU sync input can be used as a digital audio input. This allows to limit and / or dither digital audio signals. The peak hold feature can be used to monitor a transfer and check for overloads which may have occured.
The DAC1 is a stereo 24 bit / 96khz D/A converter designed with the aim of keeping an absolutely uncompromised audio signal path. Much detail and thought was spent on the digital input as well as the analogue output stage. Both have in common the purest possible approach in audio design, aspiring for nothing less than excellence. This is coupled with an ergonomic design that gives the user immediate access to all necessary functions, while keeping an uncluttered and thus easy-to-use front panel. This combination makes a truly professional D/A converter catering for the highest expectations. Inputs: There are three digital inputs on XLR connectors, and one on Toslink (optical). The accepted sampling frequencies are 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96kHz. AES/EBU signals on a single connector are used. Each XLR input is actively routed to a corresponding XLR digital output, allowing monitoring at multiple stages in a digital studio setup.Synchronization:Several signal reclocking schemes are combined for extremely high jitter attenuation, making the DAC1 virtually immune to jitter over a very wide bandwidth.Converters:The correlation technique (using two converters per channel) which was already successfully employed in the ADC1 gives the DAC1 an edge over other D/A converters with equal wordlength and sampling rate specifications, resulting in improved SNR and THD. Outputs: The discrete Class A outputs have a virtually zero Ohm output impedance, but still can drive large loads without stability problems. Output levels can be set between -infinity and +27dBu. The outputs are symmetrical, but do not have any sound degrading servo mechanisms built in. For asymmetrical operation only one leg of the XLR connector (plus ground) is used. Remote: By hooking up an analog potentiometer or fader to the remote connector, the output level can be remote controlled. This level control happens in the digital domain. The input source selection can also be remote controlled.
